William Christopher Ulmer Obituary

William Christopher Ulmer, 82 of Clairton died at the UPMC-Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh on Thu. March 13, 2008. He was born Oct. 29, 1925 in McKeesport to Margaret Zwingler Ulmer. Mr. Ulmer served in the Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant during WWII as a ground mechanic in Guam. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Western Pacific Theatre Ribbon of Honor for Meritorious Service. He retired in 1986 after 24 yrs. Of employment with Gimbels Dept. Store and was also part owner of the Burd Service Station in Wilson for many years. Bill was a 57 yr. member of Pine Run United Methodist Church in Clairton where he served as an usher and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason the Aliquippa Lodge # 375 F & AM for 60 years, Al-O-Mon Forest # 138, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Daniel Keffer American Legion Post # 75 and the Clairton Area Chapter # 1612 of the AARP. Mr. Ulmer delivered for the Clairton Hill Meals on Wheels, was an avid Square dancer for fifty years, belonging to the Grand Squares, Greengate Twirlers and the Spinners. Pap was the consummate family man, taking pride in his home and his impressive array of tools and gadgets for every possible need. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin E. Ulmer and a sister, Helen Black. He was the beloved husband of Ruth A. Cochran Ulmer, Loving father to sons William E. (Kathleen) Ulmer and Craig (Barbara) Ulmer all of Clairton and Kevin (Ginger) Ulmer of Greenock. Devoted grandfather of William M. (Lorie) Ulmer of Clairton, Christopher Ulmer of Pleasant Hills, Ted (Danielle) Ulmer of Clairton, Bennett Ulmer of Bellefonte, PA and Meghan, Jillian and Hannah Ulmer all of Greenock. Bill was the delighted great grandfather of Reagan Kathleen Ulmer. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Copeland of Oklahoma City, OK, beloved cousin and sister in law, Chuck and Lois Zwingler, Cousin Jack Burd, nieces, nephews, many devoted friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 PM at the S. M. Finney Funeral Home, Inc. 432 North Sixth Street, Clairton. Funeral Se rvices will be 11 AM Monday March 17 2008 at the Pine Run United Methodist Church, 901 North Sixth Street, Clairton with Rev. Lota Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Billsââ‚â„¢ honor to Pine Run U. M. C.
