Charles William "Chuck" Austin, 79, of Glassport, died Sunday, February 25, 2007, in UPMC McKeesport, he was a son of the late Joseph and Hannah Munson Austin. A 57-year Glassport resident, he previously resided in McKeesport. He retired in 1983 as a payroll clerk for US Steel, South Side, Pittsburgh, with 36 years of service. A World War II veteran, he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Midway. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Glassport, where he was a past treasurer and deacon. Surviving are his wife, Irene Yobak Austin, of Glassport. Father of Charles Joseph (Tracey) Austin of North Huntingdon, James William (Laurie) Austin of Elizabeth Township, Deborah Sue (Regis) Ford of North Strabane Township, and Cheryl Ann Austin if Highland Park, Pittsburgh. Brother of Ruth Mitchell of West Mifflin and the late Elizabeth "Betty" Hofman, Clarence, Walter "Shorty," Robert and Joseph "Bud" Austin. Also survived by six grandchildren, Patrick, Joel, Matthew, Jordan, Seth and Grant. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Wednesday at the E.C. Finney Funeral Home Inc., 235 Monongahela Ave., Glassport. Funeral 10 am Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Howard Ravenstahl officiating. Interment in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Township. Family suggests contributions to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, 1 N. Linden St., Duquesne 15110; or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 332 N.
